Indoor Cycling Gym
Singapore, 2020

Axiom is an experimentation on materiality, as we question the notion of the banal versus the finished and its effect when juxtaposed in space.

The project is a boutique gym that focuses on spin and strength training. Comprising of a spin studio, an outdoor strength training zone, changing rooms and a members’ lounge, Axiom is a one-of-a-kind gym that departs aesthetically from the familiar gym designs. Instead of the conventional greys, blacks or reds, it dons one of its brand colours, yellow, as a three-dimensional expression in space.

With a modest budget, the project explores the interesting dichotomy and contrast between finished and unfinished, banal and polished, raw and refined through the pairing of cement textures and raw plywood edges with copper metal highlights and coloured laminate surfaces. Joinery is carefully detailed and everyday objects like light fixtures and faucets are custom design for that added bespoke touch.
